Commemorative exhibition of sculptor Ferenc Medgyessy

The Déri Museum has maintained the legacy of Ferenc Medgyessy since 1977. Now, for the third time his well-known sculptures, drawings and reliefs from the rich oeuvre are placed in a renewed exhibition space. Those works are displayed in the first unit of the exhibition which are related to and invoke the most important events of the early decades of the life of Ferenc Medgyessy. Then the reconstructed version of the studio on Captain street receives the visitors, where his artworks were born. The sculptor worked for over fifty years within the walls of this studio; the sculptures crated here are displayed in chronological order.

Going through the studio and between the sculptures placed here, the works can be viewed in thematic groups. Special emphasis is placed on the sculptures aimed at capturing the dancing figures and the plastic grasp of the graceful form and movement of horses, the plans of the allegorical sculptures in Déri Square, and the sketches of other sculptures decorating the public spaces of Debrecen. The group of nearly two hundred drawings, reliefs and circular sculptures of the commemorative exhibition becomes complete by those works that are displayed outdoors and can be inspected during a walk in the city. The exhibition is further coloured by a rich collection of archival films, sound records, and photographic material.
