History of weapons

One of the largest and most colourful group of artefacts of the Déri heritage is the weapons collection from the modern period. The primary goal of Frigyes Déri was not to assemble the most complete set of a given weapon type, but to acquire a wide variety and a great number of combat equipment for the collection. The assemblage can be divided into three major units. The weapons of Christian Europe belong to the first, which predominantly originate from 15th–18th century Hungary, Germany, and Italy. The second and greater group is composed of classical Muslim weapons made in the Ottoman Empire and Persia. The third part, which displays the weapons of the Far East, is the smallest but the most special unit. The weapons that may sometimes be strange to the European eye were made in Persia and India in the 17th–18th centuries.
